Frequently asked questions
Short answers about what ARP does, what it doesn't, and how it keeps your recording on your device.
For full how-tos, see the guides.
Your recording stays on your device. 10 recordings free; Premium is a one-time purchase.
What does ARP do?
ARP takes the background noise out of recordings of speech — voice memos, interviews, lectures — on your iPhone or iPad. Then it lets you check the result: switch between the Original, the Cleaned version and what was Removed, and transcribe both versions to compare. Hear the demo.
Does ARP upload my audio?
No. Cleaning and transcription run on your device. There is no ARP server and no account, and the app has no analytics. The one network request it makes is Apple's speech model, downloaded once the first time you transcribe; no audio goes with it. The website uses PostHog for page views and demo and download engagement. On-device vs cloud · Privacy Policy.
What is the Removed track?
The difference between the original and the cleaned version, fitted so that ARP's own tone shaping cancels out. What is left is what the cleaning took away. If you can follow speech in it, the cleaning took too much.
How accurate are the transcripts?
They use Apple's on-device speech recognition, so accuracy depends on the recording and the language. On a hard-to-hear recording the cleaned transcript usually picks up more words; on a recording that was already clear, both are about the same. Check anything that matters against the audio.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 3 hours. Long recordings take a while to clean — a good fraction of their length on older phones — so start a long one when you can leave ARP open.
Can ARP open Voice Memos directly?
Not from Voice Memos' private library. Share or save the memo into Files, then choose Add Recording in ARP. Step-by-step: voice memo guide.
What if my recording is already clean?
ARP measures the background level first. If there is no noise to remove, it says so, changes nothing, and doesn't count the recording against your free ones.
How do the free recordings and Premium work?
10 recordings are free, each with M4A export, transcripts and the comparison. Premium is a one-time App Store purchase — not a subscription — that removes the limit and adds 24-bit WAV and AIFF export. Apple shows the local price.
What formats can I import and export?
Import MP3, WAV, M4A, AIFF and FLAC from Files. Export M4A free, or 24-bit WAV and AIFF with Premium, at the recording's own sample rate. Transcripts export as TXT or SRT.
Which devices are supported?
iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. The Mac app and Apple Watch companion from earlier versions are discontinued.
Is there a subscription?
No. Premium is a one-time purchase through Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple.
